Situated in the heart of Central Zagori, Kato Pedina has long served as one of the region’s principal crossroads. Its relatively open terrain made it one of the few areas suitable for cultivation, earning the village the nickname “the breadbasket of Zagori” for centuries. The village is first mentioned in imperial records from the early 14th century and preserves a remarkable architectural and cultural heritage. Elegant eighteenth-century stone mansions, traditional agricultural buildings, historic wells, and dozens of historic stone threshing floors continue to define its character, reflecting its long agricultural tradition. The Church of the Archangels, renowned for its eighteenth-century frescoes, ranks among the region’s most significant ecclesiastical monuments.
Today, Kato Pedina blends centuries of history with one of the most convenient locations in Zagori. Its central location puts many of Zagori’s most celebrated villages, stone bridges, hiking trails, and natural landmarks within easy reach, while its peaceful atmosphere lets visitors experience the authentic rhythm of life in a traditional mountain village.
