29 Dec Romantic Hotel in Epirus
The Hotel is located in Zagori, Epirus, not even 45 minutes with a car from Ioannina. The historically interesting city of Ioannina is very well connected by plane to the main airport of Athens (just 45 minutes’ flight). You can either take a taxi to the hotel or ask Athina & Georges who own and run the Hotel for help regarding transportation. The hotel is an old house with history, which has been decorated with much taste, in order to combine tradition with modern style and art. We stayed in the “Pink” room, quite large, bright and absolutely clean. The fireplace is facing the bed for romantic atmosphere and outside the windows there is nothing blocking the gorgeous view to the mountains. We liked that the bathroom had big window and that the room was very warm all the time. The owners show a passion for details, e.g. the keys to open the hotels front door and room were like keys from the 18th century. The couple served a very good breakfast in a spacious kitchen, with modern facilities and style. The food was more than enough and they offered a great variety of homemade marmalade – we liked the one with chilies, as most of the guests we think. There is no lunch or dinner possible at the hotel but after 21:00 they offer snacks and local wine for fair prices. Opposite of the hotel is a nice restaurant which serves delicious food and has a cute atmosphere – so for lunch and dinner you do not have to “drive” somewhere else. If you want, however, you can explore the nice area, with many traditional villages and stone bridges very near to the hotel (e.g. near the village of Kipoi, approximately 15 min. drive).
At the hotel there is also a whirlpool and a Hamam for free; and two nice lounges to relax – one as well with an open fireplace where they serve vine & Tsipouro! Since we were alone for the two nights (right before the season started) Athina & Georges explained us the history of the hotel and the region. They are certainly more than just people who run a hotel. They seem to take care that all their guests have a nice stay and we appreciated their efforts. Limitations: you definitely need a car and for more than 5 cars it seems to us a bit difficult to find parking place; further at this time of the year (before the Christmas season) the villages are practically abandoned (which however, can be also nice, if you like to explore without tourists). To summarize: just a perfect stay for a couple to rest after exploring the wonderful region of Zagori!
